It is very common for LT owners to add forced induction to Camaros, Corvettes and Trucks. The block and crank are basically the same as the LT4 which was designed for boost. The primary difference being the design of the pistons and connecting rods. Soon after the release of the LT platform GPI introduced its well known and time tested “Drop In” piston and rod solution to solve the common piston failures associated with boosting the LT1. We have found with just this change with the correct fuel system and tuning, these engines will hold up well at 1000 flywheel HP. In some cases when pushed beyond that level however, we begin to see main bearing failures. We have found this to be due to a couple of factors: The bearing clearance and required oil viscosity are no longer suited for this power level.
The main cap hardware is being pushed beyond their design limit allowing main bore distortion and cap fretting
Here is the GPI solution! when you make the decision to add boost or take your boosted LT to the next level order our “Boostrite” Short Block. We have done all the work for you with our proven Piston / rod combo, New GM block, proper clearanced Mains featuring ACL coated race bearings, line honed block with torque plates installed and ARP main studs.
