Why GPI?
Gwatney Performance has a long history with VVT Camshafts, and we have built a large portion of our reputation around them. As many of you know – we have pioneered the way, and pushed the limits of the Variable Valve technology for years with the L99 and LS Truck Platforms.
Our Gen 5 LT VVT Camshafts have been on the market (and dominating racetracks around the country) for years – but we’ve held back releasing our complete Gen 5 LT cam package until now…
Why the Wait?
We’ve done a huge number of cam installs on the Gen 5 LT’s, and unfortunately we’ve found the LT’s to be plagued with a cam control issue.Â

Because there was no product on the market to solve the issue – it was up to us to diagnose it, create the solution, test it, and then release it to market. We’ve been hard at work on this!
But first, the explanation…
Explaination of the Cam Control Issue…
When retarding timing at the top of the RPM range, we noticed a frequent variation between our desired cam position and the actual. Sometimes it would even retard timing when not commanded to at all.
Next, we found that this behavior was becoming more and more exaggerated as the oil temps reached higher levels. This was leading to 8-10 degrees of timing retard, and power falling off at the top end after several pulls – which is obviously undesirable (you certainly don’t want each run of the night to be slower than the previous!). Â
We had successfully found the problem, but this was only the start.Â
It was time to build a new Cam Phaser Limiter Kit…

The Solution!
We are happy to announce the official release of our GPI Gen 5 LT Cam Phaser Limiter Kit that completely resolves the cam control issue. As this completely solves the cam control issue – we are happy to bring our Complete Gen 5 LT Cam Packages to market!

gpi lt1 (Gen 5) camshaft
These cams are our most popular product, and for good reason – they are pound for pound – the best cam on the market for your LT1, LT4, L83, or L86 with a positive displacement blower. These cams have become the benchmark for 6th Gen Camaro’s / C7 Corvette’s / GM Trucks with Positive Displacement Blowers.These camshafts were designed with positive displacement blowers in mind – factory/ported LT4 blowers, Whipple, and so forth. With centrifugal blowers, we recommend using our standard SS1 LT through Track Attack camshafts, as they maintain a very similar, linear power curve as NA.We have 3 different iterations of this very popular cam (and the option to do a custom spec cam) – from mild performance increase with nearly stock manners, to all out N/A race applications.

Works well with the stock torque converter, offers stable idle, excellent low end torque, and smooth lobe design for quiet valve train operation and longevity. We designed this cam for use in cars with minimal modifications. Idles stable around 725 RPM, and is very strong off idle to 6400 RPM. Requires 0* phaser limiter.
L83 (5.3L)

Tailored for the street / strip individual that runs a 2500+ RPM converter. It rivals the torque output of the LT PD1 but packs on about 10-15 additional horsepower up top. Strong to 6700 RPM. Can run a factory converter but an upgraded converter is recommended. Requires 0* phaser limiter.
L83 (5.3L)
Tailored for the street / strip individual that runs a 3000+ RPM converter. It rivals the torque output of the L83 PD1 but packs on about 10-15 additional horsepower up top. Strong to 6700 RPM. Requires 0* phaser limiter.
