Controlling the Gen 5 LT Cam
GPI has completed a huge number of cam installs on the Gen 5 LT’s, and unfortunately we’ve found the LT’s to be plagued with a cam control issue.
Because there was no product on the market to solve the issue – it was up to us to diagnose it, create the solution, test it, and then release it to market. We’ve been hard at work on this!
But first, the explanation…
…we’ve found the LT’s to be plagued with a cam control issue.
Explaination of the Cam Control Issue…
When retarding cam timing at the top of the RPM range, we noticed a frequent variation between our desired cam position and the actual. Sometimes it would even retard cam timing when not commanded to at all.
Next, we found that this behavior was becoming more and more exaggerated as the oil temps reached higher levels. This was leading to 8-10 degrees of cam timing retard, and power falling off at the top end after several pulls – which is obviously undesirable (you certainly don’t want each run of the night to be slower than the previous!).
We had successfully found the problem, but this was only the start.
It was time to build a new Cam Phaser Limiter Kit…

The Solution!
We are happy to announce the official release of our GPI Gen 5 LT Cam Phaser Limiter Kit that finally resolves the cam control issue. Our Phaser Limiter is designed to limit the travel of the variable valve timing system to a maximum of 4 degrees. This solution completely resolves the runaway timing train the LT’s have been plagued with.

Product Description
GPI’s Gen 5 LT Cam Phaser Limiter Plugs are specially designed, computer-controlled cam gears that automatically optimize camshaft timing based on the current engine RPM and are currently used in all 2014+ GM Gen V VVT engines.
Engine oil is pressure-fed to the phasers through passageways in the cylinder heads and cams. The engine computers control solenoids that adjust this oil flow into and out of the phasers’ control chambers, creating the ability to retard the cams.
While this technology provides fuel efficiency and the ability to always be in the best position for maximum power, regardless of engine RPM, it does present some limitations when it comes to performance cams. With such a wide range of valve timing movement, there is very little piston to valve clearance, which limits you to small cam profiles with little overlap.
Gain some serious upper RPM power without sacrificing bottom end or mid-range performance with GPI Cam Phaser Limiters.
Initially, they sent the wrong part, so they expedited out the right one at no charge. Awesome.
Good quality
Best price and quality.
Hard to review something like this. It does it’s job. Keeps the phasing to 4 degrees.
